The End of Comcast?
Posted by mephistophocles on July 1st, 2008 filed in technology, tennesseeDon’t bet on it. For those of us utterly fed up with Comcast’s incompetence, rotten service, and apathetic customer support, news that AT&T has at long last filed the initial paperwork to offer television services to Tennessee may seem like a godsend. But not so fast, sports fans – this Tennessean isn’t convinced yet. While the move does (hypothetically at least) put AT&T in direct competition with Comcast and Charter, in theory breaking up their near-monopoly, I’m not so sure that all our ills will be solved by it. Time will tell, but AT&T doesn’t have any better of a track record then Comcast in the realm of service and support, and one thing that the cable companies have had going for them so far, at least, is that they were contracting with individual communities, not the whole state. While their service generally sucked, you could at least bet on talking to a customer service rep that was more or less in your area (and not Buttfuck, India). I’ll be sticking with a Netflix subscription for a while, I think.
